Political Street Art in Toronto: Rob Ford

The mightiest of weapons is truth. And everyone knows you’re not permitted to enter a Government building with a weapon – The Covert Comic

I was in Toronto over the new year and had a friend show me around the cooler parts of the city (Kensington Market and Queen Street West).  I absolutely loved the street art.

Although I am not well versed in Canadian politics, the undeniable political flare that featured in the art could not be ignored:

The remnants of the poster depict Rob Ford, current mayor of Toronto.

Since attaining office he has been caught up in a wirlwind of drama.  When I was there (December 2012) Ford was in damage control following the conflict of interest fiasco.  In November 2012, he was found to have a conflict of interest that interfered with his political position and a court ruled that he had to vacate his office.  Ford appealed  and the judgement was overturned.

He didn’t stay out of the limelight for long, in April this year a video surfaced showing a man bearing an uncanny resemblance to Ford smoking crack.  I am a complete stranger to Canadian politics but, on a comical level, at least the Ford saga is entertaining.
